Saludos amigos de BoricuActivatEd,

It was a busy year for BoricuActivatEd, featuring some very significant milestones.  Today, we are pleased to share with you a few noteworthy items:

  • Celebrated our 5th Anniversary – We commemorated this occasion by hosting an event that—thanks to the generosity of our supporters– resulted in BoricuActivatEd exceeding our fundraising goals. The new funds enabled us to hire first acting executive director, Alexander Barrio.  The event also gave us the opportunity to thank and salute our supporters, funders, and friends.
  • Gained new funders – We started to formalize our fund development department which will be responsible for managing all of our grant management and fundraising activities. In 2022, we received more than $60,000 in new funding sources from sponsorships, foundations and individual donors.
  • Returned to On-Site Workshops – For the first time in two years, our BoricuActivatEd team returned to in-person training with a focus on providing workshops for high school students in North Philadelphia and the Esperanza Academy. Over two months, we held four 90-minute sessions and successfully guided 25 teens to become engaged, informed student advocates.
  • Expanded our Operations – Our team continues to move forward in securing funding to support our “Train the Trainer” Program. To serve more communities and address all the requests we receive from across the country, we recognize that we must grow our team of volunteer workshop trainers. Accordingly, we are in the process of designing and launching a “Train the Trainer” curriculum.  This will allow us to deliver consistent content across different platforms.
  • Broaden our Leadership – With the addition of new members to our Board of Directors and the formation of our Congressional Advisory Group, we continued to augment our collective capacity. Our leadership remains committed to BoricuActivatEd’s mission of educating and engaging the Puerto Rican diaspora and communities of color across the U.S. to advocate for positive change on the Island and mainland.

We thank all our supporters for helping us expand and continue the important work of helping achieve the goals of empowerment and civic engagement.

Agradecemos a todos los que nos apoyan por ayudarnos a ampliar y continuar la importante labor de ayudar a alcanzar los objetivos de empoderamiento  y compromiso cívico.
